Serial port An RS 232 port capable of data I/O and programming of radio functions is present in each Base/Repeater, Mobile, and Portable
Simplex Capable Unit to unit (commonly known as talk-around) communications can be conducted on any programmed frequency not in use by the network. Frequencies and permissions for these types of transmissions must be programmed into each individual unit.
Status Messages Up to 255 status messages can be sent from any unit equipped with a keypad, or by external connections for such items as vehicle parameters (oil pressure of coolant temperature alarms, fluid levels, etc.), or any measurement that can be quantified digitally.
Supergrouping Supergrouping is the temporary combination of talkgroups, from a permitted dispatch console, into one, large "super talkgroup".
Supervised Power On/Off Every mobile or portable radio power on/off event is reported to the DV/IP radio system.
Talkaround Simplex operation, described above, can be permitted on active system channels for special operational circumstances.
Technician/User Display Selection The mobile or portable radio displays may be toggled between the default "user" display, and optional "technician" display.  
Telephone Interconnect While the backbone system is full duplex, the current mobiles and portables are capable of half-duplex telephone interconnect operation if permitted. An interconnect board may be plugged into the DB-1000 repeater.
